Abstract
The fast development of quantum computing poses a serious risk to the existing cryptographic mechanisms, which are based on RSA and ECC, which have become the foundation of modern digital security. This article examines the risks that are emerging with quantum computing, such as the ability to crack popular encryption algorithms and the notion of harvest now, decrypt later. It presents a solution, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), that is a proactive method aimed at protecting the data against any quantum or classical attacks. The paper identifies some of the main PQC methods lattice-based, hash-based, and multivariate cryptographic systems, and looks at their real world uses and issues. Moreover, it is deliberating all activities carried out by global organizations like NIST and key technology companies and also assessing the current state of Pakistan on its preparedness to respond to future quantum attacks. The paper points out the necessity to switch to quantum-resistant systems and make them the standard to stay resilient in cybersecurity in the long term.
