Abstract

This article explores The Aimless Dive Problem—a growing habit among software engineering students where ideas are executed quickly using AI-generated code without understanding the underlying concepts. It argues that this surface-level research mindset creates engineers who appear productive but lack depth, ultimately weakening problem-solving ability, system design thinking, and innovation. Focusing on Pakistan’s tech ecosystem, the article highlights how over-reliance on AI without verification or inquiry risks producing fragile systems and limiting industry growth. It concludes that true innovation begins not with coding, but with deep research, critical questioning, and a strong engineering mindset built before writing a single line of code.
