Abstract

Quantum computing is a new type of technology that uses the principles of quantum physics to process information much faster than regular computers for certain complex problems. Instead of using traditional bits that are either 0 or 1, quantum computers use qubits that can exist as 0, 1, or both at the same time through a property called superposition. This allows them to tackle tasks like drug discovery, cryptography, and advanced AI training that would take regular supercomputers thousands of years to solve. However, quantum computers are still in the early stages in 2026 - they’re highly sensitive to errors, have a limited number of qubits, and are designed to work alongside regular computers rather than replace them. Companies like Google and IBM are racing to build more stable, large-scale systems, and while we’re not at the "everyday use" stage yet, major breakthroughs are expected in the next decade that could transform medicine, materials science, and cybersecurity.
