Beyond Sugarcane: Rethinking Ethanol Production in Pakistan Exploring Smart and Sustainable Technologies for a Diversified Biofuel Future
Main Article Content
Abstract
Pakistan has a problem that it created all by itself. For a time, the country has been selling hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ethanol to other countries. At the time, Pakistan was spending billions of dollars to import petroleum that it could be making at home. This is a contradiction that is hurting Pakistan's economy, and it needs to be changed. The first step to making this change is to face the truth. Pakistan's ethanol industry is based on sugarcane molasses. It has reached its limit. There are 20 distilleries in Pakistan that are working at full capacity, and they cannot make much more ethanol without changing the way they do things. The government has a plan to mix ethanol with gasoline. This plan is not enough to solve the problem. It is a temporary solution.
