Author Guidelines

Transactions on Emerging Sciences Ideas at the Edge of Discovery

These guidelines describe how to prepare and submit a manuscript to Transactions on Emerging Sciences (TES). Please read them carefully before submission — manuscripts that do not follow this format may be returned for revision before entering peer review.

1. Aims and Scope

Transactions on Emerging Sciences publishes original research, reviews, and short communications across the physical, computational, and life sciences, including but not limited to bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, materials science, and climate science. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary work that advances emerging fields or applies established methods in novel ways.

2. Article Types

Word counts exclude references, tables, and figure captions.

3. Manuscript Structure

All original research submissions should follow this structure, in order:

1. Title of the Article — concise and descriptive, ideally under 20 words
2. Author Name(s) — full names of all contributing authors, in the order they should appear in print
3. Affiliation(s) — department, institution, city, and country for each author
4. Corresponding Author Email — one designated author responsible for correspondence
5. Abstract — 150–250 words summarizing the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. The abstract should be a single paragraph, written to stand alone without citations or undefined abbreviations
6. Keywords — 3 to 6 keywords, separated by semicolons (e.g., Bioinformatics; Computational Biology; Data Science)
7. 1. Introduction — background, problem statement, and objectives of the study
8. 2. Methodology — data, tools, and methods used, in sufficient detail for reproducibility
9. 3. Results — findings presented clearly using tables and figures as appropriate
10. 4. Discussion — interpretation of findings and comparison with existing literature
11. 5. Conclusion — summary of contributions, limitations, and directions for future work
12. References — full reference list in Harvard style (see Section 6)

Review articles and short communications may adapt this structure but should retain a labeled Abstract, Keywords, and References section.

4. Formatting Requirements

TES Article Template

• File format: Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX (.tex with accompanying .pdf)
• Page size: US Letter or A4
• Font: 11–12 pt, single font family throughout the body text
• Line spacing: 1.5 or double-spaced for the review draft
• Margins: minimum 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
• Headings: numbered as shown in Section 3 (1. Introduction, 2. Methodology, etc.)
• Page numbers: included on every page
• Authors are encouraged to use the [official TES Word template] when preparing their manuscript, which includes pre-formatted headings, an abstract box, and a sample results table.

5. Tables and Figures

• Number tables and figures sequentially (Table 1, Table 2 … / Figure 1, Figure 2 …) in the order they are referenced in the text
• Each table and figure must have a concise caption placed directly below it
• Figures should be submitted as high-resolution files (minimum 300 dpi for raster images; vector formats such as .svg or .eps are preferred for line art)
• Tables should be built as editable tables (not pasted as images)
• Cite the source of any adapted or reproduced material in the caption, and confirm you hold the necessary permissions

6. Citation and Referencing Style (Harvard)

TES uses the Harvard referencing style for both in-text citations and the reference list.

In-text citations:

• Single author: (Smith, 2021)
• Two authors: (Smith and Khan, 2021)
• Three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2021)
• Multiple sources: (Smith and Khan, 2021; Ahmed, 2020)

Reference list (alphabetical by first author's surname):

Smith, J. and Khan, A. (2021) 'Bioinformatics applications', Pakistan Journal of Bioinformatics, 1(1), pp. 1–10.

General format by source type:

• Journal article: Author(s) Surname, Initials. (Year) 'Title of article', Title of Journal, Volume(Issue), pp. page range.
• Book: Author(s) Surname, Initials. (Year) Title of book. Edition (if not first). Place of publication: Publisher.
• Book chapter: Author(s) Surname, Initials. (Year) 'Title of chapter', in Editor Initials. Surname (ed.) Title of book. Place of publication: Publisher, pp. page range.
• Website: Author/Organization. (Year) Title of webpage. Available at: URL (Accessed: date).

Every source cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and every entry in the reference list must be cited in the text.

7. Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening for scope and formatting, followed by double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Please ensure the manuscript itself contains no identifying author information beyond the designated title page fields, so that the body of the manuscript can be shared with reviewers anonymously.

Typical timeline:

Editorial decisions include: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject.

8. Publication Ethics

• Authorship should be limited to those who made a significant intellectual contribution to the work. All listed authors must approve the final manuscript before submission.
• Originality: submitted work must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts are screened for plagiarism prior to review.
• Conflicts of interest: authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the work.
• Data availability: authors are encouraged to make underlying data available upon reasonable request, or via a public repository, and to state this in the manuscript.
• Human/animal subjects: studies involving human participants or animals must include a statement confirming ethical approval and, where applicable, informed consent.

 

9. Copyright and Licensing

Upon acceptance, authors will be asked to sign a copyright/license agreement. TES supports open-access publication; specific licensing terms (e.g., CC BY 4.0) will be confirmed at the time of acceptance.

10. Submission Checklist

Before submitting, please confirm:

• Manuscript follows the required structure (Section 3)
• Abstract is 150–250 words and includes 3–6 keywords
• All citations follow Harvard style and match the reference list
• Tables and figures are numbered, captioned, and referenced in the text
• Author names, affiliations, and corresponding author email are complete
• Any conflicts of interest or ethical approvals are disclosed
• File is submitted in the required format (.docx)

11. How to Submit

Publication Fees (APC)

Upon acceptance of the manuscript, authors are required to pay the Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover editorial and hosting costs:
