Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Pakistan Journal of Bioinformatics (PJB) invites original research and review articles that contribute to the field of computational biology. All submissions must adhere to the IEEE Editorial Style for formatting and citations.

1. Manuscript Types

  • Original Research Articles: Detailed reports of original data and findings (typically 4,000–6,000 words).

  • Review Articles: Comprehensive summaries or critical analyses of existing research in a specific bioinformatics niche (typically 6,000–8,000 words).

2. Manuscript Formatting

Authors must follow the PJB standard two-column format.

  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX.

  • Title: Concise and informative (Title Case).

  • Abstract: A single paragraph (150–250 words) summarizing the objective, method, results, and conclusion.

  • Keywords: 3–5 keywords for indexing purposes.

  • Structure:

    3. Results and Discussion

    4. Conclusion

    5. Acknowledgment (Optional)

    6. References (Harvard Style)

3. Graphics and Tables

  • Images: High-resolution (minimum 300 DPI) in TIFF, JPEG, or PNG format.

  • Tables: Created using the table function in Word, not submitted as image files.

  • Captions: Figure captions go below the figure; Table titles go above the table.

4. Publication Fees (APC)

Upon acceptance of the manuscript, authors are required to pay the Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover editorial and hosting costs:

Note: Instructions for payment (Bank Transfer/Online Gateway) will be sent via email with the acceptance letter.

5. Submission Process

  1. Originality: All manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using Turnitin. Similarity indices must be below 19% (and less than 5% from a single source).

  2. Ethical Clearance: Research involving human or animal data must include an ethical approval statement.

  3. Online Submission: Please email your manuscript to pjbsubmissions@gmail.com or through our online submission system.

6. Peer Review Policy

PJB employs a  peer-review process. Each paper is evaluated by at least two independent subject experts. The average turnaround time from submission to first decision is 4–6 weeks.

  • Attribution: Appropriate credit must be given to the original author(s) and the original publication in this journal.

3. Author Warranties

By submitting a manuscript to PJB, the author(s) warrant that:

  • The manuscript is an original work and has not been published elsewhere.

  • The manuscript does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any third party.

  • All co-authors have approved the final version of the paper and its submission to the journal.

4. Self-Archiving Policy

Authors are encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their personal website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.
