Abstract

This article explores the psychological and technical mechanisms behind modern data collection. While users are increasingly aware of privacy risks through social media tips and tutorials, the "convenience-first" design of mobile applications often leads to passive data surrender. The piece examines how apps build behavioral profiles, the implications of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) in Pakistan, and the transition of personal data from advertising tools to potential security threats like identity theft. It concludes with practical, baseline security measures to help users reclaim their digital boundaries.
