Abstract

The development of the IoT has led to the emergence of a host of cybersecurity problems, especially concerning the limited processing power of most connected devices. Cryptography methods are among the most effective ways to solve IoT-related cybersecurity issues, but they have a number of limitations because of their high demands for computational power. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to consider the idea of lightweight cryptography – a specific type of cryptography that allows users to encrypt data using constrained IoT devices. The paper will discuss various aspects of lightweight cryptographies, including principles, types, and applications. The growing demand for lightweight cybersecurity tools will be examined in relation to the modern Pakistani technological environment. In particular, attention will be paid to healthcare, agricultural, and smart city applications. The challenges that need to be addressed to implement lightweight cryptography will be discussed alongside the existing and prospective solutions.
