Abstract

Smart cities are transforming urban life through the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. Connected devices such as smart traffic systems, surveillance cameras, and intelligent energy systems improve efficiency and quality of life. However, the increasing use of IoT also introduces major cybersecurity risks. Weak passwords, outdated software, and poor encryption can make smart devices vulnerable to cyber attacks. This article discusses the importance of IoT security in smart cities, highlights key security challenges, and explains how secure systems can support digital development in Pakistan. Strong cybersecurity measures, including data encryption, regular software updates, and secure authentication, are essential to ensure safe and reliable smart city environments.
